VCWWC Members in Action: Volusia Volunteers in Medicine Finds a New Home and a New Intern!

March 6, 2025

VCWWC members continue to give, connect, and multiply our collective impact in ways beyond just financial contributions. While we all know that our $100 donations add up to create meaningful change, many of our members step up in other incredible ways—providing essential resources and support to our family of nonprofits.

At our first-quarter meeting of 2025, Volusia Volunteers in Medicine (VVIM) shared that they were searching for a new, affordable location for their clinic in Daytona Beach. Before the meeting even ended, two VCWWC members, Cynthia Fite and Tara Gugliara, both executives with Intracoastal Bank, immediately took action. They connected with Carol Kilian and helped secure a new clinic location!

When I followed up with Tara, she shared:

Cynthia and I love being part of VCWWC. It is amazing how this community of women comes together, Teresa! I can’t believe how everyone knows someone, and we all connect.

I knew Kathy Heverin and Carol Kilian, but more indirectly than Kathy. So I told Cynthia—let’s reach out! Cynthia and I have the same doctor, and I suggested calling him to help find a space, but Cynthia said, ‘I know the perfect person,’ and she made it happen through her client! She connected them with exactly who they needed.

That, my friends, is the power of VCWWC!

Spreading the Word & Finding an Intern

When Carol Kilian presented at our meeting, she also emphasized another major need—helping spread the word about VVIM’s free medical services for working adults without insurance. She shared that they struggle to reach those who qualify and would benefit from their clinic.

Later, when Carol was interviewed on WAPM Radio by VCWWC member Shellye Vallance, she was asked how she planned to use the $1,000 grant awarded by VCWWC. Carol mentioned she was considering using the funds to hire an intern to manage social media and help raise awareness.

Hearing this, a Kaiser University student—who is studying for a medical degree and has experience in social media—enthusiastically stepped forward! She is now in discussions with VVIM about interning and helping the organization reach more people in need of their services.

VCWWC’s Impact in Action

The giving doesn’t stop there. Kris Sanders, the Executive Director of 1 Ohana 1 Community, was operating out of an All Aboard Storage Unit. When I spoke with the owner of All Aboard Storage, he said, “I will provide the space for them at no cost!” What an incredible act of generosity! But thanks to the continued support of our members, 1 Ohana 1 Community has now secured a new, expanded location that will allow them to serve even more families in need.

At every gathering, countless connections are made, resources are shared, and lives are changed. The funds we provide are mission-moving and life-changing, but our impact doesn’t stop there.

Thank YOU, VCWWC members, for being part of this movement. Together, we are making a difference in ways beyond measure! 💙
